Google Says: It is not necessary to install an antivirus on your phone.. Is this true?

See what Google Said about Having an Anti-virus Application

Many people who own an Android have an Anti-virus application on their phone. Not just android but anyone. It's a safe thing to do in case a virus hits your phone and to avoid that we just download an application that says it can protect us and we go with it. Google has said multiple times and is still saying that you don't need an Anti-virus application on your Android phone. In this article, we're gonna tell why does Google keeps saying that and what does it mean by it.

Is there antivirus software installed on your Android device? Are you looking for a good antivirus for your mobile phone that is highly effective and offers you real protection as well as not consuming too many resources? Google has said several times and now it's back to saying that it's not necessary to install an antivirus on Android, but is it really that?

This statement came several years ago from the hand of Android security engineer Adrian Ludwig, who said that the average Android user does not need to install an antivirus on their smartphone or tablet. "Absolutely not," he told the Sunday Morning Herald, noting that this is unnecessary in addition to the protections Google offers...

Android security chief's statements went a step further. Ludwig said that those who use security software or apps on their phones "may never be protected." When talking about the apps in the Google Play Store, this engineer mentioned that they go through an automated system that checks them for dangerous conditions, and only the verified apps are provided in the Google Play Store. In this regard, he noted that the current risk of a potentially dangerous application [coming from this store] reaching users is "extremely low", which is incorrect.

This is not the first time Android engineers have talked about antivirus software for the platform. Already in 2011, it was also confirmed, by another engineer, that those who sell antivirus software for mobile phones offer “scam and zero protection”, which is not entirely true now either.

Obviously, we are only talking here about whether or not an antivirus app should be installed when a user continues to download apps from Google Play. The truth is that sometimes using an antivirus isn't a bad idea (not permanently, because you won't want to drain your phone's battery and performance), whether it's the one that Android already brings or even a third-party antivirus to see if you don't have Bad apps installed.

Google Play is not 100% secure. In fact, there have been multiple reports that this store has been distributing malware-laden apps for years. The latest status is the application Color Message ، which has been downloaded more than half a million times, and which contained the "Joker" malware suite. This application automatically registered the user (without his knowledge) in paid services, as well as sent his contacts to a server in Russia.

Another important question is whether users need to install an antivirus when installing apps from unknown sources are enabled in Android settings and APK files downloaded from the Internet are installed. And the answer is pretty clear in this case as well. Viruses are a real thing on mobile devices, especially on Android, which is the most popular operating system, so we need antivirus software in many cases.

Something I Recommend which a lot of people do is downloading Anti-virus applications to check if there's any virus on an app or on your phone like do a quick scan then delete it so it doesn't consume any of your phone's battery or storage which is a good way of doing it.
